Life interrupted my plans. I was so looking forward to seeing the poinsettias in place, the time with the children, the lighting of the fourth Advent candle and the return of a choir in the worship service this past weekend. However, as many of you know, my father passed away on that Monday and my family were busy with all those things you do after the death of a loved one. After several years of growing dementia, failing health and the near isolation of the past year, he is now at rest. I am so very glad that Wanda and my children and my brother and his family were able to visit with my father and we know he felt loved and well cared for to the end.
I want to express my thanks to Rev. Ken Humbert for preaching this last week (two in a row!) and for Jacki Stranathan to take on other responsibilities in leading the worship service. I also am thankful for Paul Metcalf, Bob Jacobs and Cathy Baker for setting up the poinsettia stands without my usual help. They look beautiful.
Now, we can proceed to Christmas. This is a perfect time to hear the message of God-With-Us. O come to us, abide with us, our Lord, Emmanuel.
