Last month a group from the church met to discuss ways that we could promote caring for God’s creation. We decided to share a list of practical things that can be done that can make a difference. Here are things that individuals and groups can do.
- Consider donating to charities or non-profits that have resource conservation or environmental protection missions.
- Share publications from conservation organizations to which you belong. Place in fellowship hall for others to take and read.
- Use the Frederick County Office of Sustainability and Environmental Resources website for additional ideas. The Green Leader Handbook, FINAL-GL-handbook (frederickcountymd.gov) is a great place to start.
- Become more familiar with recycling by accessing The Recycle Coach app. This provides waste and recycling pick-up reminders and a What Goes Where look-up tool. The smartphone app is available for download at .
- Change the lightbulbs in your home to energy-efficient bulbs.
- Turn off all appliances and electronic devices when not in use.
- Check cleaning products for those containing phosphates or those that use excessive plastic packaging. Avoid using these.
- Use toilet paper and paper towels made from recycled paper.
- Use the dishwasher instead of handwashing dishes.
- Bring your own mug to church for use during the coffee hour.
- Plant trees and shrubs; replace any trees that are cut
- Join the Arbor Day Foundation
- Petition local, state, and federal representatives and demand climate action legislation.
