This week, I am filling church folk in on issues in our buildings. Last Sunday was a bit warm in the building. Sometime late on Saturday (it always blows on a Saturday), a fuse on an exterior transformer blew. Potomac Edison was able to replace it by 10 a.m. on Sunday morning, and much of the electrical system and electronics were back online, but it took a visit from our a/c tech company on Monday to reset the air conditioning.
The other big issue has been the church nursery. Many of you know that the nursery room has been closed since May. The steam pipes that provide heat throughout the main building sprang a leak! In both the ceiling and the floors. When these were opened up, we found that long sections of the pipes had deteriorated and had to be replaced. This involved removing asbestos. Over the last few months, we have had asbestos abatement, demolition of the ceiling and concrete floors, and replacement of the pipes.
We are getting close to the end. New lights and a ceiling are being installed, along with floor repairs, carpeting, tile, and paint. The plan is for the nursery to be open again by the end of August.
We has a beautiful building, but it’s a big building that needs ongoing maintenance and repairs. We are all fortunate to have Fred Schumacher as the chair of the Board of Trustees to provide care and oversight.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Steve
