Between Sundays: From the Heart

This past Sunday was one of those beautiful mornings when the Spirit moved gently but powerfully among us. From the return of our youth mission team to the joyful noise of worship and the honest prayers we lifted together, it was a reminder that God is present in both our mountaintop moments and our everyday acts of faith.

One moment that stood out came during our Ministry Celebrations and Invitations, when Margie Wilde shared about the ongoing needs of our Grateful Hearts ministry. Her words were simple and heartfelt, but I know they stirred something deep in the hearts of many of you. Maybe it was when she spoke about needing teachers to lead with patience and joy, or drivers to offer the gift of presence and transportation. Maybe it was just the Spirit nudging you toward something new.

Grateful Hearts is a ministry for adults living with disabilities. Sunday mornings, we drive to pick up class members and bring them to church, where they gather for Sunday School, attend worship with us, and are then driven home. It’s one of the most tender, joyful, and faithful ministries we offer. We are currently looking for (once a month) drivers, teachers, assistants, and compassionate companions to help keep this ministry vibrant.

This is where our wisdom and nurture doesn’t come from a book, it comes from our love in action. From the ways we show up, serve, and make space for others to experience the grace of Christ in community.

If you felt even the slightest tug on your heart when Margie spoke, I hope you’ll join us this Sunday after worship for an informational luncheon about Grateful Hearts. If you’re just curious, come. If you’re looking for a place to serve, come. And if you’re just hungry, come!

And if this ministry isn’t your particular calling, don’t worry, we’ve got loads more opportunities rolling out this fall for folks of all ages to get involved as we begin a new ministry year together.

Until Sunday, and all the days between,

Dr. Hutton
