Between Sundays – Residing in Hope

This past Sunday, we were reminded through the story of Naomi and Ruth that God is always at work, even when our lives feel unsettled or uncertain. Ruth’s bold commitment, “Where you go, I will go”, was more than a promise of companionship, it was an act of faithful presence and deep love. In choosing to reside with Naomi, Ruth stepped into an unknown future, trusting that hope could take root even in foreign soil.

That same story is unfolding in our own community. We see it in those who show up for one another through seasons of grief and change. We see it in neighbors offering care, in volunteers giving their time, and in people taking the risk to be part of something new. Like Ruth, many among us are learning to pitch their tents with and among others, not waiting for life to be perfect, but planting seeds of faith, compassion, and belonging right here and now.

God is inviting us to do the same: to bloom where we are, to choose presence over perfection, and to see the sacred in the soil beneath our feet. Between Sundays, may we continue to be people who reside in hope, and extend it to others.

Until Sunday, and all the days between,

Dr. Hutton
