Between Sundays: From Planting to Building

“And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight.” Philippians 1:9a

Over the past few weeks, we’ve talked about seeds, about planting with hope, breaking open what holds us back, and tending what God has entrusted to us. This past Sunday, we shifted the image: from planting to building.

Ephesians 4 reminds us that building God’s kingdom isn’t just about bricks and mortar, it’s about the people who make up the church. Paul challenges us to “lead a life worthy of the calling” we’ve received. That means building with humility, patience, love, and unity. We don’t all serve in the same way, but each gift is essential. Together, we create something that will outlast us, a foundation for the next generation.

And that’s where we’re headed this coming Sunday. As we bless our students, teachers, and school staff for the year ahead, we’ll turn to Philippians 1:9a and talk about bearing, about what happens when the seeds we’ve planted take root, grow strong, and overflow in love. We’ll be reminded that the harvest isn’t ours to keep; it’s meant to be shared, so that others may find hope, help, and blessing through us.

This is also the perfect time to roll up our sleeves and help build in tangible ways. A new ministry year means new opportunities to serve and grow:

  • We still need a driver for our Grateful Hearts class once a month.
  • Come be a youth group counselor and make a S’more on Friday.
  • Join Ms. Amy’s team in Sunday school and help kids know they are loved by God.

Loads of ways to get involved and these are just a few!  Between Sundays, let’s keep building, rooted in love, working side-by-side, and trusting that what we build together in Christ will last.
