Between Sundays: Sustaining Grace

This past Sunday we blessed backpacks, students, teachers, and all who are beginning a new school year. We prayed over not just supplies and classrooms, but the lives and hopes they represent, each one a seed planted with promise, each one a reminder of the love and support of this congregation.

And now, this week, our Calvary campus will be bustling again. The voices of little ones will soon echo through our halls as Weekday School Kindergarten begins and Orientation for our 3- and 4-year-old programs commence. Backpacks will be hung on hooks, classrooms filled with color, and our building will hum with new beginnings. What a gift it is to witness this life taking shape among us.

This coming Sunday, our worship will focus on sustaining. Isaiah 50:4a reminds us of God’s wisdom spoken into weary hearts, and Philippians 4:4–19 calls us to rejoice, to pray, to trust in God’s provision. Just as our bodies need exercise, our minds need stimulation, and our children need teaching, so too our spirits need practices that sustain us, prayer, worship, community, and daily attention to God’s Word.

As we step into a new school year and a new Sunday School ministry season, may we recommit to our own spiritual “fitness,” trusting that in God we find the strength, peace, and joy we need to carry us through all that lies ahead.

Until Sunday, and all the days between,

Dr. Hutton
