Between Sundays: Love. Hope. Jesus.
This week I had the joy (and maybe a little too much fun) of updating our church sign for the very first time. No one has ever thought it a good idea to give me access to a church sign before! I admit I was tempted to change it to: “Travis, Taylor, We do weddings!”, but I may have missed my chance. Instead, I wanted our community to see what we’ve been talking about together on Sunday mornings:
LOVE. HOPE. JESUS. What He Really Said.
This past Sunday we focused on “The World’s Most Important Sermon,” as Jesus preached what we know as the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7). These words are not just poetry, not just history, they are a roadmap for how to live as citizens of God’s kingdom.
We live in a world where so many voices compete for our attention. Algorithms, media, and influencers tell us who we should be, what we should value, and who we should trust. And far too often, those voices thrive on anger and division. But Jesus offers us a different GPS, a map that doesn’t push us apart but draws us together in God’s love.
The Beatitudes remind us that God’s blessing rests not on the rich and powerful, but on the meek, the grieving, the merciful, the peacemakers. His teachings about anger, love for enemies, and building on a solid foundation remind us that following Him isn’t about quick fixes or shallow words, it’s about obedience, transformation, and building lives that can withstand the storms.
In a time when our world is deeply divided, I believe with all my heart that the hope found in Jesus’ teaching can unify us, if we will allow His words to transform our hearts. That’s what this series is about: cutting through the noise, listening closely to Jesus, and rediscovering the love and hope only He can bring.
So, as you pass by the church sign, let it be a little reminder: LOVE. HOPE. JESUS. It’s not just our series title, it’s our invitation to let the words of Christ be our map for life.
Until Sunday, and all the days between,
Dr. Hutton
