Between Sundays: Living Water for the World
This month our October Love Offering supports WASH, Water and Sanitation Hygiene programs. Safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene are not luxuries; they are fundamental to human dignity, health, and well-being.
Access to clean water doesn’t just prevent illness, it transforms communities. Safe water reduces the spread of diseases like diarrhea, trachoma, and soil-transmitted helminths. It enables children to attend school instead of spending hours carrying water. It strengthens local economies by improving productivity and livelihoods. It creates resilient communities where people can thrive in healthier environments.
The numbers are striking. Around the world, drinking unsafe water continues to cause preventable illness and death. Contaminated water sources pose daily threats to families. And yet, evidence shows that even modest improvements, such as regulated piped water or sewer connections with wastewater treatment, dramatically reduce disease and save lives.
Through WASH, we can make a difference. By giving financially to this month’s Love Offering, by supporting one of our youth participating in the Walk for WASH, or even by signing up to walk yourself, you are helping bring health, hope, and dignity to communities in need.
And we’ll have the chance to learn more this very week. Mission Sunday is right around the corner, where we will hear more about WASH, celebrate Calvary’s many mission efforts here and beyond, and join together for a Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing Event. Together, we’ll share in hands-on service that feeds both body and soul, not only in our community, but around the world.
The words of Jesus remind us that He is the Living Water, the source of life that never runs dry. When we share safe, clean water and when we serve together in His name, we reflect His love in some of the most tangible ways possible.
Until Sunday, and all the days between,
Dr. Hutton
