The season of Lent begins next week on Wednesday, March 2. For forty days (plus six Sundays), followers of Christ around the world will be focusing on their spiritual life and preparing for the celebration of Easter. This is the ideal time to take up some “holy habits” to help us grow in our life with Jesus Christ. This might be taking on a new practice of prayer, setting time aside each day for reading the Bible, giving up something for a time, like Facebook or sweets. It could also be doing something to help others, like volunteering on some project in the community or checking in on friends and neighbors that you haven’t seen for a while.
I will be using a practice that involves an app on my cellphone which provides a daily time for silence, hearing a portion of scripture and offering a prayers. I will also be taking part in a three-day retreat with other pastors.
I am looking forward to our Lenten Study at the church on Wednesday evenings. (see the information about this below). I hope many of you will come out and participate.
It is my hope and prayer that everyone in the congregation join with me and others in making some “holy habits” part of our lives for the next 40 days. Lent is a time for paying attention, opening our eyes and our ears and our hearts in order that we may find and be found.
In Christ,
Pastor Steve
