Here is a prayer that was written by a friend and colleague, Rev. Ginger Gaines Cirelli, the Lead Pastor of Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington, DC.

God who is beyond politics and nations,
Christ who transcends the power of violence,
Holy Spirit who animates all people,

Be with us in this moment of decision, division, and turmoil.
Loving God, Mother and Father of all,
whose Son commanded us to love our enemies:
Lead them and us from prejudice to truth:
deliver them and us from hatred, cruelty, and revenge;
and in your good time enable us all to stand reconciled before you,
by your grace and mercy.

O God, look with compassion on the whole human family;
take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts;
send your holy and life-giving Spirit to move every human heart
and especially the hearts of the people of this land,
that barriers which divide us may crumble,
suspicions disappear,
and hatreds cease;
that our divisions being healed,
that we may live in justice and peace;
Eternal God,
in whose Kin-dom no sword is drawn but that of righteousness,
no strength known but the strength of love:
help us follow the Prince of Peace,
putting away our warring ways,
our polarization,
our demonization and dehumanization,
and our striving for power and wealth.
