There is a long way between Palm Sunday adulation and Easter Sunday resurrection. We’d like to skip over the hard part, but it’s there. For Jesus, this included betrayal by one in his inner circle, denial by another, and abandonment from the rest. It included arrest under cover of darkness, a hastily arranged trial, rejection, suffering, and death. Although he put his full trust in God, he did not get to skip over any of the hard parts.
We gather to remember the meal Jesus shared with his disciples. We gather again on Friday to recall that last day that ended with the crucifixion. Then, we live in that space between the sorrow of Good Friday and the surprising joy of Easter morning. It’s a story that has been told over and over, but may it never become old for us.
In the cross of Christ I glory,
Towering o’er the wrecks of time;
All the light of sacred story
Gathers round its head sublime.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Steve
