Calvary UMC Frederick – Inclement Weather Policy (Revised 2025)
At Calvary, our priority is always the safety and well-being of our congregation, staff, and volunteers. Weather in Frederick can be unpredictable, but our commitment to worship and connection remains steady, whether in person or online.
Sunday Worship Services
Unless a State of Emergency is declared by the City of Frederick or the State of Maryland, the Senior Pastor will be present in the building for Sunday morning worship.
Because we now have reliable livestream capabilities on YouTube and Facebook, worship will continue in some form every Sunday.
- If you do not feel safe traveling, please stay home and join us online.
- Your safety and comfort matter. God meets us in every place we gather, sanctuary, home, or screen.
Musicians & Volunteers
We do not expect musicians, liturgists, greeters, or volunteers to travel if road conditions feel unsafe.
- If a reduced team is present, worship will adjust accordingly.
- “Flexibility is a spiritual gift” we will offer Word and music with whoever is safely able to be here that morning.
Communication of Weather Decisions
If weather requires schedule changes, we will communicate updates by 6:30 a.m. on Sundays (or as soon as a decision is made for other days). Notifications will appear on:
- The church website (calvaryumc.org)
- The church Facebook page
- The recorded message at 301-662-1464
If no announcement is posted, the church is following its regular schedule.
Weekday Activities & Office Hours
For Monday–Friday:
- If Frederick County Public Schools close, the church office will also be closed and all activities canceled.
- If FCPS calls a two-hour delay, the church office will open on time unless otherwise announced.
During closures:
- Church offices will be closed.
- Employees are not expected to report.
- If an employee personally concludes that travel is unsafe, they should notify their supervisor as soon as possible.
Evening & Weekend Events
Because weather can improve or worsen throughout the day:
- The leader of a scheduled event (staff or volunteer) may choose to cancel or proceed with a program even if the office was closed earlier.
- All event decisions must be communicated to the Senior Pastor and participants.
